Just Cause 2 Begginers Guide to Modding

Hello all This is Going to be a Intro into the
world of modding Just cause 2.

Now remeber this game is still very new and we still
dont understand some aspects of the game so
there will be some limmits untill we can work arround
      the game a bit better

      Part one: What you need

Well first and formost you gonna need the best tools
to come out so far by Gibbed.

Gibbed has Found ways into the files That allow us
      to mod the game.

      Download:
      –Visit Site for more info–

Next you need a text editor. the basic on for windows works but i like to
use notepad++ because it allows for more format as you edit different
      files

      Link:
      –Visit Site for more info–

Part 2: Overview of the tools

OK so Gibbed came with alot of tools so extract the rar to any location
navigate to the files and you should have the fallowing exe’s

      -ArchiveViewer.exe
      -bin2xml.exe
      -SmallPack.exe
      -Smallunpack.exe
      -xml2bin.exe

Each of these files has a purpose explained here:

      Archive Viewer –
program able to look in to just cause 2 arc files
witch hold and the textures and models and text of the game.
it is also capable of extracting these files.

      Bin2xml-
This File Converts extracted bin files to xml for editing

      Smallpack-
Compresses files into useable mods .ee/.eez

      SmallUnpack-
Uncompresses files for editiong of settings, model and textures

      xml2bin-
Converts edited xml files into useable bin files

      Part 3: Exploring JC2

Ok Im just gonna give you a foot step into the world With archive viewer
      let get started.

      Open up and Run ArchiveViewer.exe
      Next Click open

your going to navigate with the new window to your game install folder and arc files

      (default: C:Program FilesJust Cause 2archives_win32)

      Select pc0.tab

This Will open a Know and and unknow tree

Know lists the files that are know and can be read where
unknow lists hex data that is hard to edit.

Now from here you can save any file you wish to edit and use the corrisponding
tool to extract or pack the data.

heres some details on te files you may come across:

      .BIN
Bin Files are settings files that corrorspond with the title
use bin2xml.exe to convert and edit
      .XML
      Used as a config/setting file
      .DDS
This is the texture’s for JC2. photoshop with the right plugin
can read and edit these files
      .BLZ
      Unknow possibly a video file
      .EE
A package that useually contains model, settings, texture files
      .EEZ
      Same as .ee
      .AVPROJ
A control file that connects all the diffrent directories -DO NOT EDIT THIS
      .FLZ
      Unknow File
      .BRF
Unknow File – Maby a config of some sort
      .BRFC
Unknow File – assc. .brf ?
      .DAT

So Please Stay Tuned For More tutorial and
I will soon have a tutorial on Bin files and a quick
      mod to the black market.

it’s kinda hard to read.. also add that .eez files load first. so if you replace a vehicle file replace the .eez.

Thats what a .blz is just incase you wanted to know. Raster image format similar to .BMP, but uses an image compression algorithm; often used for graphics in video games. thanks very much for all the help! I appreciate al the work you have helped me get done!

This is wrong, just because another application used the extension blz something does not mean it matches its use in JC2. JC2’s BLZs are compressed BLs (which are small archives).
