Better Visibility for Resource Crates.
- April 13, 2010 at 11:40 am #80099AllenMember
I have been scouring though trying to find a way to make the crates more visible, or to make the radar more sensitive to them. I am tired of being stuck at 98% or even 100% in the cities with put being about to find the last crate to get the check mark.
if anyone has succeeded in this, or has a suggestion then feel free to holla at me.

In player.bin there’s a setting called “ResourceItemPickupRange” and it’s default is set to 150. Whap that up to 500 or so and you can extend the range of the scanner.

or even better, I know those damn crates have some kind of shinyglow effect on them.
find out what that is, or replace it somehow with a different effect, ie. empglow, and you shouldn’t be able to miss them.
or, im assuming those textures are in the global directory and cant be skinned yet, but if their not, then just skin them to a bright ass red or something and your ready to go resource huntin.

I tried increasing this to 3000, and didn’t really notice any change (yes, I converted the XML back into BIN and put it in the dropzone folder).
The icon thing just kind of .. vanishes if you can’t see the crate anymore (ie, it’s on top of a building and you jump off the building), might have something to do with the game unloading that model or something when it’s obscured from vision.
So.. not as helpful as I would of hoped
Perhaps an alternative would be to make the hitbox for the resource crates bigger or something?
If you want to test it yourself, here’s a player.bin with 1000x the default ResourceItemPickupRange (150 -> 150000): http://www.omploader.org/vNDU3MA/1000x_ResourceItemPickupRange_JustCause2.7z
Found the relevant files for the pickup crate objects.. no real way to edit anything useful inside of them though.
I’m pretty sure the pickup.boost.*.ee.epe files inside of those are what is “of interest” for this purpose
Unfortunately, I suck at hex editing and don’t have the vaguest idea of where to begin on this:Code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:PCBB….9IT……… ……………….y.s…..0…`……[email protected]………..CSimpleRigidObject……………l……p…P…………………………………………………………..<…………………………y.s………………………..COutline

the ResourceItemPickupRange value has no discernible effect, i played around with it at several different numbers and no change that was visible

I think this is a killer mod idea.
One of the worst things about this whole game is the packages. GTA added them in just as a crappy way to extend the game… To have this concept “be part of” the main game is completely awful.
Someone mod this for me

I don’t know what you tried but I saw an effect. The resource icon started showing up far away from a resource and started flashing from waaay too far. Didn’t make the little arrow appear though.

I also tried to mess around with the pickup range thinking it was how far you had to be until you picked it up, so my intention was to set it to something ridiculous like a million and hopefully when I walked it would just pick the crates up (wishful thinking) but it didn’t and after further testing the function was of no use to me so I abandoned the idea.

i would also like this, maybe make the crates shine more?

Are you guys running the game on a really low resolution or something? I run at 6040×1200 resolution adn I can see the flash of packages from about 700 meters. jsut get a bit of altitude with your chute or a vehicle and you can almsot always see every one belwo you, flashign away. I also find the locator icons to show at a respectable range.
But i guess it’d be ncie if someone did find a way to alter these, if only for the good of the modding community

Would it be possible to add a variable like the faction items? Make it so you could see the general location from the map? I looked for a little myself, but haven’t been able to find the variable that makes the faction items turn off when found.

Couple of threads on here for highlighting the crates and faction items but still months later no one has done anything with it ??
Just started playing JC2 and this is quite annoying when you have 97% and can not find the last 3%. Dont like using the map viewer either. Anyone advanced this ?
